Why is Spelling Important?

 Why is spelling important?

The author of one of Edutopia's blog attempts to answer this question in his blog post titled Does Spelling Count? The author of the blog believes that  yes, spelling does count.

Spelling-as well as many other things- is a simple way to show that you took three seconds to proof-read your work. Many teachers and employers look at spelling errors as a lack of caring or as a lack of knowledge. Spelling, although a small thing, can show a large difference in the eyes of your audience.

Another point the author brings up is while in school, subjects are broken down into your simple reading, writing, arithmetic, science and history. Then he goes on to explain how catching bugs and exploring are loved as children, but when teachers call it science and take it for a grade the student is no longer learning. The author thinks that learning should be fun again and if it was then students would learn more.

The author then goes farther by challenges schools to take the subjects out of schools and focus on advancing the students education instead.
